Herbie Hancock – Tempo De Amor (Feat. Ceu)

Heard this last night on Jamie Cullum’s jazz show. Had no idea who it was until he back-announced it, but that sexy Brazilian singing had me searching YouTube.

Serpent seen slipping South

I am a little concerned by the following news stories, it seems that folk ‘oop Norf’ having relocated to the more serpent-friendly climes of the South, are still unable to hold onto their dangerous animals!

Indeed there is evidence over here , that they can’t even hang onto their clothes!

t-shirt friday 30.7.2010

I was first in the queue this morning at the Royal Mail Sorting Office to scoop up my parcel of t-shirts from Uncle Iffy .
This one was free!
Just in time for Nurse Myra’s t-shirt Friday.
Thanks to all the team at Iffyton, especially Uncle Iffy’s Elf Rosanne who dealt with my email enquiries so efficiently.

Recipe

I picked up a postcard in my local British Heart Foundation charity shop recently. It has a much better picture of this dish (don’t recipe books always?). I’ve made it twice now and it’s a very quick and easy recipe.

Plum Dessert

  • 55gm plain wholemeal flour
  • 25gm caster sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 egg
  • 125ml semi-skimmed milk
  • 1.5 teaspoon sunflower oil
  • 3 or 4 ripe, sweet red dessert plums, halved and stoned
  • Icing sugar for dusting (optional)

Preheat oven to 220c/gas mark 7.

Combine flour, caster sugar and cinnamon in a bowl.

Make a well in the centre of flour mixture, break in egg and add a little milk. Beat thoroughly, gradually beat in remaining milk to make a smooth batter.

Put oil in a shallow 7inch square non-stick cake tin. Heat for 2-3 mins or until hot. Quickly and CAREFULLY (oil will spit!) place plum halves, cut-sides down, over base of tin. Pour batter over fruit.

Bake for about 25 minutes or until pudding is cooked, risen and browned. Dust with icing sugar, cut into portions and serve.

p.s. The first time I made this I realised I had come back from the supermarket without the fruit! However,  I did have a packet of cooked beetroot……..it tastes just as delicious as a savoury dish.
