More than 1,600 people have died and about six million left homeless in Pakistan’s worst flooding.

In total, about 17 million of Pakistan’s 166 million people have been affected by the disaster.

Goats reunited

Many thanks to Margaret at Nanny Goats in Panties for using my ‘Angora Goat’ photo back on August 12th.
When I originally used that photo 70′sTeen nicknamed it the ‘bad-hair goat’, now the commenters over at Nanny Goats have likened him to Whoopi Goldberg and Dee Snider.

Ever since then I have been trying to thank her in a comment on her blog, unfortunately the NGIP blog uses Disqus . I don’t understand why, but the NGIP blog never loads fully any more and I am unable to leave a comment there.
The only other blog I have loading problems with is Blazing Minds who also used to use Disqus, not sure if they still do.
Anyone tech genius out there know if there are any issues with Disqus?

A friend of mine landed in Japan a few days ago and has been posting on his Facebook page about his sleep patterns being messed up.
He is a keen language student and says he is ‘bemused by Kanji’.
I had to look up Kanji as I didn’t know what it was…..not food or a place-name as I first guessed, but the name for the characters used in Japanese writing.

I don’t know what these symbols represent yet.
Jonny (Jonny-san?) tells me there are 50,000 different characters!
Wikipedia says that “Japanese school children are expected to learn 1,006 basic kanji characters, the kyoiku kanji, before finishing the sixth grade…….The kyoiku kanji list is a subset of a larger list of 1,945 kanji characters known as the joyo kanji, characters required for the level of fluency necessary to read newspapers and literature in Japanese. This larger list of characters is to be mastered by the end of the ninth grade.”

I sent him a link to the pinktentacle site to show him these Kanji transformer toys.

I’m sure he will soon get his head round Japanese culture, after all everything else seems to make perfect sense ……..

Plans to build a state-of-the-art library next to Republican catastrophe Sarah Palin are causing outrage across mainstream America.

Campaigners have described the project as insensitive and a deliberate act of provocation by people with brains.

The issue is forming a dividing line in advance of November’s mid-term congressional elections with candidates being forced to declare whether they have ever been to a library or spoken to someone who has books in their home.

Last year that clever flat-cap wearing Norvern lass came up with a brilliant idea for us all to write a post about what we were doing on 090909 day.

She will hopefully be reminding everyone soon about Sequential Day – which for those of us in the UK falls on 8th September ’10.

I was looking at Geekologie earlier and the poor guys over there received a barrage of abusive comments for declaring today as Sequential Day.

Most unfair, I thought.
If the date is written August 9th 2010 then today IS 08/09/10, sad that there seem to be so many narrow minded people out there.
